Throughout our week, we are managing our day to day responsibilities, family, work, projects, relationships and everything that makes our day, a day. In all the 24 hours, we are the ones responsible for creating a healthy lifestyle balance. This means taking care of our overall wellbeing and the environment around us. Our wellbeing connects to deeper parts of us. It is our physical body, emotional body, mental body, and spiritual body. This post will talk about the importance of taking care of our physical body and the connection it has to our spirit within.
In our spiritual journey, we become more consciously aware of our actions in our lives. We learn the deeper purpose of why we do what we do and even taking care of our physical body is a spiritual act within itself. Taking care of your health is more than just your physical being it is also a self-love language with one’s self. We are more than just our physical bodies. There are parts of us that define our essential selves, everything that makes you, you. To take care of our physical body, in Judaism, this is known as sh’mirat ha-guf or, the value of protecting and caring for one’s body. Our body is a carrier, the home of our soul, our physical shelter and protection for the inner universe. Our human body was created in the image of G-d, b’tzelem Elohim (Genesis 9:6). As such, there is something holy and special about us, something divine within. With a part of God within us, we are to take care of and respect our bodies. On a practical level, this means having a healthy balanced diet, eating well, sleeping well, and exercising. This is our responsibility to care deeply for our bodies thus, this can relate to the amount of SELF LOVE and SELF WORTH one has towards their divine self.
To be in a healthy relationship with yourself is to honor all of your needs and take care of your overall wellbeing. If you are to look around you and wish to have a healthy body, it will not come out of anywhere, rather, it is YOU who has to do it. You can be supported in living a healthy lifestyle but ultimately, it is you who does the actions towards living a healthy life. Taking care of ourselves brings out the best in us and allows us to do our best. As we are on our healing journey, taking care of our physical body can grant you a healthy long life. Lead by example to yourself. Love yourself deeply enough to take of your shelter, your home, the body that you live in. This is part of living through consciousness and purpose-driven life.
If you are to look within yourself and you are dissatisfied with your physical body, turn to self-love. How much do you love yourself to eat healthily, feed your body nutrients and go outside to get energy and release stuck energy from your body?
This is spiritual! We learn from sh’mirat ha-guf what it means to be responsible for our actions, appreciate ourselves and our bodies, and care for this gift that we have been given with love.
Here are a few ways to have a healthy relationship with your physical body with a higher consciousness:
Be conscious of your work and rest balance! Are you sleeping enough compared to the number of hours you work? Not enough sleep and rest can result in a lot of stress in the mind and body. Our body will not function well if we do not give the proper rest it needs. If you want to achieve more and be high performing in your daily life without feeling physically tired, grant yourself permission and self-worth and say “body, I respect you. I value our physical being and I love myself enough to grant myself to rest and recharge”
Water! Are you drinking enough?
Our bodies are made up of 60% water. We need to drink clean water to fuel and hydrate ourselves. Look at yourself as a thriving plant and water yourself. Water thyself with self- compassion, and love throughout the day. Water represents life. All that we give water to lives. Look at the earth and how it feeds us and nature with water. Just like how God hydrates the earth with rain, hydrate your divine self with water. If you find yourself forgetting to drink water, make it a new healthy habit to drink. Whenever you can remind yourself just like how the earth needs water to grow, so do you. Water gives us the ability to think clearly and stay focused sometimes, we overlook the power that drinking clear and clean water has.
Exercise! How do you move your body?
We are energy! Move your body in ways that you can connect to yourself. Feel like a child again by playing sports that you once played as a child. Go out of your comfort zone and feel your body, move your body and let the energy flow through and from you.
Show gratitude towards your body! Are you grateful for your body? Why?
We can take for granted how powerful our bodies are. We go to the bathroom, we walk, we use our hands, we speak and listen. Thank you body for being healthy and functioning correctly.
Protecting your body and the Divine spark within takes commitment and consistency. Listen to your bodies’ needs when it is trying to speak to you, we can become more aware of our emotions and desires this way too.
