Personal development is one's way of improving self-awareness and consciousness. By doing so, one gets closer to realising their true potential, desires, goals, and aspirations all while improving their quality of life. There is no limit in personal development. There is always something to work on within ourselves. Expanding yourself is a lifelong process, it takes discipline and courage to identify where you need to evolve as a human being. During the personal development journey, the reward is usually a better understanding of who you are and more knowledge about your skills and personality. If you think you don't need personal development, then it's a clear sign that you do. We all need it, it is the ticket to a better quality of life and it helps you become a better version of yourself. Needing to work on yourself does not mean you are not good enough. It means that you have identified weaknesses and you were brave enough to admit you need to change and grow. The best people are always evolving, learning, and improving because they understand that without growth there is death.
Here are some benefits of personal development and why you should implement them in your everyday life:
First, you learn of your true potential and this brings you closer to achieving your goals, so be proud that you seek to develop and improve yourself. Our life is a journey of growth. When you grow, the people around you are inspired to grow as well. By investing time in yourself, the benefits come in every area of your life, starting from personal health and wealth to the relationships with yourself and others. Being happy, motivated, inspired and courageous is linked to personal development.
Second, you get to know yourself, your desires, motivations and goals. This is an opportunity for you to know who you are and how you operate. By taking the time to really get to know who you are and what you are interested in allows you to stop living life according to other people's standards and opinions. Doing what's good for you may seem selfish at the start but that is the language of self-love. Thus, bringing me to my third point;
You learn how to be compassionate and loving towards yourself. Be aware that implementing what you've learned takes time. So remember it is about the journey and not about the destination. At times we can be hard on ourselves during our development. Our level of productivity can fluctuate as we start reconsidering what it is that interests you. As with everything new and challenging, there is a natural resistance in trying to take action in bettering ourselves. When negativity begins to rise up inside of you, recognise this as an opportunity to call in self-love. Be compassionate towards yourself and believe that you're on the right track. When you are feeling down, reflect back on you success. Sit by yourself and look at how far you have come, no progress is bad progress, be it a year, a month or even a week! There is growth in our everyday life and personal development is a tool to amplify it. If you feel comfortable enough, ask a confidante, say a close friend or a family member to show you how much you have grown as a person since you've started your journey. When you begin to evolve, people around you notice it. Create a support team and allow them to cheer you on when you feel like you need a boost along the way.
Lastly, you step out of your comfort zone. As you step out of your comfort zone you are challenged to overcome your limiting beliefs, those personal beliefs that keep holding you back from achieving your goals. You are challenged to rise above the negative influence, both around you and in you. when you go out of your comfort zone into the unknown, you might feel a strong resistance to give up and return to where it's safe. Don’t let your mind bully you back into your comfort zone, it is in the unknown where you grow the most. You will discover that getting comfortable with the uncomfortable is where you learn of new strengths and weaknesses. This is evolution. This is growth.
So you've decided to set out on a journey of personal development, you might be asking yourself, where do I start? Here are some tools and tips to get you started.
First, ask yourself some questions.
For example:
1. What goals do I want to achieve?
2. Why do I want to achieve these goals?
3. Who do I want to help?
4. How can I create the life I want to live?
5. What is my passion?
6. What limiting beliefs do I have? 7. What do I want? By asking yourself questions, you find the purpose behind your actions. You will connect more to what it is you truly desire and the why behind your drive. Write out your questions and answers. Be authentic, be clear and be brave. This journey looks different for everyone but yet the results are the same. A better quality of life and clarity about who you are. Second, take at least 15 minutes a day to look within yourself. After asking yourself questions, get to know who you are and why you do what you do. That is what personal development is all about. Meditation is a great personal development tool because you become self-aware of who you are and gain a healthier perspective about life. With these two elements of self-awareness, you will be able to achieve personal development goals because you have inner clarity of what it is you want. Third, learn to listen to your heart. Make decisions on your own without the influence of others. Unless you set time aside to do personal development, you’ll continue to stay in the same stagnate place. Along the journey of personal development, remember to have self-love and self-compassion. This is the key to being resilient along the way. Mistakes are an unavoidable part of life, learn to accept that. You have only failed if you've stopped trying and stopped believing in yourself. Step out of the comfort zone. Be honest with yourself. As you step out of your comfort zone, it is in the unknown where you meet your highest potential. Be brave with your life. Question yourself. Question your beliefs. Question everything. Learn, understand and evolve. With the right mindset, you can see mistakes as blessings and lessons in disguise.
